嗨游 — We were here

从北门来先我们觉得这个地方太热闹也没意思，但越我们去越被神往。

Letting us in from the north gate, this park didn't impress us much at first. Kids playgrounds, noisy carousels and so on… But the deeper we went, the more beautiful and quiet spots we found, being absolutely charmed by the end of stroll.

外国人会游泳。

After getting through a tiny hill huge lake with an island will catch your eye. It's possible to rent a boat and sail around (the atmosphere there is just right to do it), but the time we got there, it was a bit windy, so they stopped renting "because it is dangerous". Actually, there's more than that. Most of Chinese can't swim and consider any water activity (including learning to swim) dangerous. Wait for the post about 北戴河 (Běidài Hé) sea beaches, we'll put more light on this.

花复名亭园。

Back to the park. Wide area around the lake as well as the island are fine to walk around or camp out as some families do, but don't waste too much time on those as there's South East part called 花复名亭园 (Huāfù Míngtíngyuán) which deserves much more attention. Cascades of small rivers and ponds, reed and bamboo groves, beautiful 亭子 (tíngzi) pavillions, lonesome 二胡 (èrhú) players… makes you just sit at some stone near water and behold. I guess this kind of effect is caused by the contrast with big city outside. If it would be somewhere countryside, it would be expected and so less impressive.

好像不够还有玫瑰花园教《玫瑰山》。

And like it's not enough, there's a huge rosarium called 玫瑰山 (Méiguī Shān — Mount of Roses) in the western part with countless varieties of roses blooming.
